Indonesia Joined the Apostille Convention

Indonesia is made up of several islands in Southeast Asia. The beauty and tranquility often bring visitors for both tourism and business. Many people love the idea of relaxing in the turquoise blue waters, and many have chosen Indonesia as a place for the perfect wedding.

You may need to bring official paperwork if you are going for business, a destination wedding, or for other reasons. And all that paperwork will need an apostille.

Indonesia Joined the Apostille Convention

On June 4th, 2022, Indonesia acceded to the Hague Convention of 1961. Or, in easier terms, Indonesia joined the apostille convention.

An apostille verifies the validity of the seals and signatures of a document. For instance, if you are getting married in Indonesia, you will need to apostille documents such as your passport, birth certificate, and a single status affidavit. In 1961, the apostille became widely accepted as the agreeable form of authenticating paperwork.

For countries not members of the Apostille Convention, you will need to authenticate your paperwork through the Embassy.

Obtaining An Apostille

In the example above, we talked about getting married in Indonesia and some of the documents that need an apostille attached. But how do you go about getting an apostille?

Your first step is verifying whether the state or federal government issues the document.

  • For state-issued paperwork, you will request the apostille from the Secretary of State.
  • For federally-issued documents, you will request the apostille from the US Department of State in Washington, DC.

You’re not alone if this sounds a bit overwhelming. But you don’t have to know that Indonesia now accepts apostilles. Because this is where One Source Process can help, we can obtain an apostille or embassy legalization for each of your documents.

Let One Source Process Obtain the Apostille

We know that Indonesia now accepts the apostille, that the apostille will need to be translated into the official Indonesian language, and how to work with both the state and federal governments to complete this task.
