Get an Apostille in Idaho for International Document Use

Most international authorities require official verification that the signatures and seals on your documents are authentic — this verification is provided through an apostille or authentication. In Idaho, apostilles and authentication certificates are issued by the Idaho Secretary of State apostille office for eligible state documents. This includes Idaho-issued records, certified business documents from Idaho authorities, and private documents properly notarized by an Idaho-commissioned notary public.

The type of certification you need depends on the destination country. Members of the Hague Apostille Convention accept apostilles. For countries outside the Convention, Idaho Secretary of State authentication may be required instead, followed by U.S. Department of State certification and embassy or consular legalization.

Idaho Apostille Requirements

Not every Idaho document qualifies for apostille processing as-is. The Idaho Secretary of State has specific eligibility standards. Here is what to check before you submit:

  • Government-issued documents. Records issued directly by an Idaho government agency — such as court orders, professional licenses, and driving records — are eligible if they bear the relevant official seal and an authorized signature.
  • Vital records. An Idaho birth or marriage certificate requires an official certified copy from the Idaho Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics. Photocopies are not accepted.
  • Notarized documents. Powers of attorney, affidavits, copies of passports, and other private documents must be notarized by a commissioned Idaho notary public. The notarization must be current, complete, and include the notary’s original signature and seal.
  • Academic documents. Diplomas and transcripts may also require notarization before submission. A school official’s signature or seal alone may not be sufficient.

FBI Background Check Apostille Services in Idaho

Anyone living in Idaho who needs to use an FBI background check abroad — for immigration, employment, residency, adoption, study, or a visa application — may assume this can be handled through the Idaho Secretary of State. It cannot. An FBI Criminal History Report is a federal document, and the Idaho Secretary of State has no authority to issue an apostille for it. The request must go through the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Authentications in Washington, D.C.

One Source Process offers end-to-end FBI apostille services for Idaho residents, including:

  • destination-country requirement review;
  • document preparation;
  • submission to the appropriate federal authority;
  • return delivery coordination.

Why Choose One Source Process for Idaho Apostille Services

Idaho document authentication involves several variables that are easy to get wrong, including whether a record needs notarization, which office should receive it, and whether the destination country requires an apostille or authentication certificate. One Source Process has helped clients navigate these decisions since 2010.

Before anything is submitted, we review your documents for missing signatures, incomplete notarizations, incorrect formats, and other issues that could cause rejection by the Idaho Secretary of State. This review is free and happens before you pay. If notarization is required first, we flag it and guide you through the correct steps.

From there, we confirm whether your document needs a state apostille, federal apostille, or authentication through the U.S. Department of State, or embassy legalization for a non-Hague destination. Each record is sent to the correct office. Certified translation in over 250 languages is available for destinations that require it alongside the apostille, and completed documents are returned via tracked FedEx or DHL.
