Apostille Bank Statement

Whether you are traveling to another country for personal or business reasons, you may be asked to apostille your bank statement. This is usually requested for 2 reasons:

  • Prove Income – have enough money to make the purchase you requested
  • Source of Funds – to show you can provide for yourself while living/traveling in the new country

An apostille is a stamped document attached to the bank statement that proves the legitimacy of the statement. In this case, the state in which you have the bank account must verify the document’s authenticity and assign the apostille.

There are several cases in which you will need to prove your income or source of funds:

  • Apply for a loan in a foreign country (maybe to purchase real estate)
  • Apply for an insurance policy
  • Ensure your company is solvent
  • Obtain a visa

The first step is to receive a most recent copy of your bank statement, and it must be notarized. Most banks have a notary on staff who can notarize the bank statement as it’s printed.

If the staff notary is not available, you can arrange to have a traveling notary meet you at the bank. They can notarize the signature of the bank employee who presents you with the statement.

Once you have the notarized bank statement, obtaining the apostille is your next step.
