Get an Apostille in Nevada

Marrying in Mexico, taking a contract in the UAE, or enrolling a child in an overseas school — each situation may require you to prove your Nevada document is authentic before a foreign office will accept it. For many destinations, that proof takes the form of an apostille.

For records tied to Nevada, the apostille is issued by the Nevada Secretary of State, which verifies the signature or seal on the document. Eligible documents can include:

  • certified Nevada vital records;
  • state and county government records;
  • court documents with the required official endorsement;
  • business records issued or validated in Nevada;
  • academic records prepared for authentication;
  • private documents notarized by a Nevada notary public.

Getting an apostille in Nevada is straightforward once you know which route applies. If the destination country is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, an apostille is generally sufficient. For a country outside the Convention, the office issues a Nevada authentication certificate instead, and further embassy or consular legalization may be required.

Nevada Apostille Requirements

Before a document can receive a Nevada apostille, it must meet the state’s requirements. Because the Secretary of State authenticates an official’s signature, that signature must be present and verifiable. Here’s what that generally means for different document types:

  • Vital and court records. These must be certified copies, not ordinary photocopies. Birth and death certificates are available through the Nevada Office of Vital Records, while marriage records come from the County Recorder in the county where the license was purchased. Divorce decrees are obtained from the County Clerk for the county that granted the divorce.
  • Government records. State, county, and local documents must carry an authorized official’s signature.
  • Business records. Corporate documents must be issued or signed by the appropriate Nevada authority.
  • Notarized private documents. Powers of attorney, affidavits, consent forms, and passport copies must be notarized first. The notary’s signature is what the state confirms, so the notarization must be properly completed.
  • Academic records. A diploma or transcript generally needs a notarized signature from an authorized school official; a seal or an unsigned copy may not be enough alone.

Check the document’s place of issue or notarization before submission. It must generally bear the signature or seal of an authorized Nevada official or be notarized by a Nevada notary. Documents issued by another state or by the federal government must go through the appropriate authority instead.

FBI Background Check Apostille Services in Nevada

An FBI background check — the FBI Identity History Summary — often becomes part of the paperwork Nevada residents need for use abroad. It may be required for:

  • immigration and residency applications;
  • international employment;
  • work or study visas;
  • citizenship applications;
  • international adoption;
  • professional licensing;
  • education abroad.

The important point is who can issue an FBI background check apostille in Nevada. An FBI Identity History Summary is a federal record, not a Nevada state document, so the Nevada Secretary of State cannot apostille it. It has to go to the U.S. Department of State, Office of Authentications.

That federal route still depends on the destination. For Hague Convention countries, an FBI background check generally needs a federal apostille in Nevada. For other destinations, it may require federal authentication followed by legalization through the destination country’s embassy or consulate.

Why Choose One Source Process for Nevada Apostille Services

A Nevada apostille request can involve more than simply sending a document to the Secretary of State. The record has to be prepared correctly, sent to the right authority, and matched to the requirements of the destination country. One Source Process brings those steps together in one service. As part of the process, our team:

  • checks signatures, seals, certified-copy status, and notarization;
  • identifies missing information or preparation steps;
  • confirms whether the document belongs with Nevada, a federal authority, or an embassy or consulate;
  • prepares the request for the appropriate office;
  • coordinates any certified translation required for use abroad.

We work with personal, academic, business, and court documents, with one dedicated contact keeping you updated along the way. Once processing is complete, your documents are returned by tracked domestic or international shipping. That gives you one point of coordination for Nevada document authentication instead of having to manage each step and authority separately.
