Apostille Social Security Letter / Income and Benefits Letter

It’s finally time to enjoy your retirement, and you have decided to live outside of the country. Congratulations on your new adventure. Many countries will require you to apostille and present your Social Security Letter or Income and Benefits Letter.

Obtaining an Apostille for your Social Security Letter

An apostille is a uniformly accepted authentication process that is accepted by all countries that are a member of the Hague Convention of 1961. Before this, each country had different requirements for authenticating documents. For countries that are not members of the Hague Convention of 1961 – you must follow the Legalization process, and work with their Embassy or Consulate to authenticate your Social Security Letter.

The Social Security or Income and Benefits Letter are federal documents; this means that you will not notarize the document before acquiring an apostille.

The first step is to acquire your Social Security Letter. This can be done either at your nearest Social Security Administration office or at the Social Security website  where you can easily print your letter.

Next, you go through all the steps to authenticate this document. If your destination country is a member of the Hague Convention of 1961, then you must contact the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. and request an apostille for your document. If you are moving to a non-member country, you will work with the State Department in Washington, D.C. as well as the country’s Embassy or Consulate.

Or you can simply call us.
